Character Advancement

Character Advancement 101

Welcome to character advancement 101! This will give you the basics of leveling your character in the Foundry server.

To Level up, a Character must go on as many adventures as their current level. Each active session awards one Adventure Point. Upon reaching the number of Adventure Points equal to the character's current level, their Adventure Points reset to zero and they gain a level.

Step 1: Access your character sheet

  • Find your character, whether it be in the Unused Characters, Tier 1, Ect.
  • Open your sheet by clicking on it.
  • Ensure that your sheet is currently unlocked

Step 2: Apply your levels

At this point we have two options on how to advance.

Option 1
  • On your character sheet click on the features tab

  • Right click on the class you wish to increase and click edit.
  • Click into the details tab of the class feature.

  • Change the number in the levels box to the correct level
  • At this point a pop up should appear. Click the apply button at the bottom of the pop up.

  • If applicable, Enter your chosen subclass into the subclass box exactly as it appears in the class description.
  • The pop up should appear again. Once again click apply.
  • Check the features added to your sheet and if necessary make selections as listed in the feature by dragging and dropping the chosen option onto your sheet.

  • If selections were made, edit the text field of the feature and list which option was chosen.

Option 2
  • Open the Compendium's tab at the top right.

  • Open the Character Building folder.
  • Open the Classes folder and open the Classes compendium.
  • Find the class you wish to gain a level in and drag it onto your sheet.
  • At this point a pop up should appear. Click the apply button at the bottom of the pop up.

  • If the class you have chosen would require you to pick a subclass right away, such as Cleric
    • On your character sheet click on the features tab

    • Right click on the class you added and click edit.
    • Click into the details tab of the class feature.

    • Enter your chosen subclass into the subclass box exactly as it appears in the class description.
    • The pop up should appear again. Once again click apply.
  • Check the features added to your sheet and if necessary make selections as listed in the feature by dragging and dropping the chosen option onto your sheet.

  • If selections were made, edit the text field of the feature and list which option was chosen.
  • Add the gold amount appropriate for you level up.
    • Levels 2-6: 250 Gold Per Level
    • Levels 7-11: 600 Gold Per Level
    • Levels 12-16: 6000 Gold Per Level
    • Levels 17-20: 21000 Gold Per Level

Step 3: Post to Discord
  • Open Discord and go to the #paperwork channel.
  • Post your character's advancement. Example: Galdur will use 3 AP to advance to level 4.

Special Circumstances

Milestone Levels

To show how a character grows and changes over time, upon Reaching Levels 6, 11, and 16 a character is awarded another Background characteristic with the Following Restrictions:
  • Unlike 1st Level the Character will only gain one skill Proficiency. If they are already trained in both within the background, the skill proficiency is lost
  • If presented with the Option of Learning Languages, the Character can only learn one. No tool Proficiencies are gained
  • The Character receives the Background "Feature" and all equipment, but no gold.
  • The Player can choose to change one of the listed characters traits: Personality Trait, Ideal, Bond, or Flaw.
  • With the Approval of the DM Lead and Character Lead, a character can change their Subclass.
  • Once and only once during the life of a character, instead of taking a Milestone background, a feat can be taken in its place. This must be approved by the DM and CW staffs.

Character Rebuild

Beginning at level 6 and up to, but not exceeding level 19, a Character can be rebuilt one time. Normal Approval Levels apply and the rebuild must be approved by the CW staff. If Class or Backgrounds change there must be an RP reason for doing so subject to the approval of the DM Lead.
  • This allows for Base Ability swaps. IE Swap Int 15 with Char 12, and now have Int 12, and Char 15. Not a complete rebuild of Ability Scores.
  • ASIs can be moved to other Abilities, or swapped for Feats.
  • Milestone Backgrounds/Feats may be changed.
  • Skill Profs can be moved to more appropriate skills.

If the character has the feat: Sidekick, it cannot be moved to an earlier possible slot in order to level the sidekick. If a character does not have a the Sidekick Feat, they may not pick it up during this rebuild.
No DM awards such as blessings or items can be changed. This does not effect the characters gear in any way.

Level 20! The Glory! The Power!

Upon reaching level 20, the Character has a shelf life. They are limited to 20 adventures, or six months, whichever comes first. During this time, the player will work closely with the Dungeon Master Staff to cement a place for the character in the on-going story within the Community. This can be many things. The character might become Royalty; or have risen to the Heights of Drizzt Do'Urden, their legend living on forever; or perhaps they scheme and plot to ascend to Godhood.

Choose to No Longer Level

Characters can be placed on Hold now after level 6 and any level prior to level 19. A character can only be on hold once during a character’s life. Characters on hold are awarded +1 TP from Adventures. Characters on hold earn no AP.
Advantages
  • Characters who have halted their level progression receive +1 Treasure Point from Quest Rewards
  • Unlike Characters who reach Level 20, this character will never be forcible retired.
Disadvantages
  • Well, the character won't continue to Level Up
  • Once this choice is made, if the player wishes to again begin to advance in level, they may do so. They are then, never again allowed to halt their level progress.
