Your SCA Staff

Sword Coast Adventurers was founded by a group of adventurers who wanted to create something more than the traditional campaign. This foundation led to the living community we now enjoy in this server. We are a volunteer-based server, whose only compensations are based on fictional treasure, and a want to see our server continue and thrive. Our staff manages to play and tinker when real life allows and are the mice that help make everything run smoothly in the realm. Most of the time at least. Care to join us? Earn some extra treasure points, adventure points, or levels? Want to have your voice heard on the latest holiday ideas or books?

Check out our Voluntary Staff positions & Benefits in the Chests below!
To join the staff simply contact the lead of your desired position on Discord.

Staff Leads & The Council

With the Voluntary we also have a few positions that are not free game. SCA was founded and continues to be run by a group of players. Players, who go beyond the call of a voluntary staff member, and somehow still enjoy it. These players hold the positions of Staff Leads, for each of our 4 sections of staff. These roles are not usually advertised and are no longer voted on because of the dedication we feel they require to keep our server functional, active, and fun. These Lead positions, also make up our Council, which is responsible for sanctioning new material, handling community issues, refereeing bullying or metagaming, as well as player disputes, and any allegations of cheating.

With the change of The Council’s members, we have also changed some of the ideas behind SCA. The Council will no longer plan activity weekends or be the sole vote on new ideas in the community. We will be allowing the staff in all areas, as well as the players, a voice in upcoming changes and events. If you want to be more involved the first step is volunteering as staff!

Peacekeepers (Previously Speakers)

Moderation. They make sure the smut stays in the pillow fort, the official tracking channels stay clean of clutter, and act as the eyes and ears of the Admin Lead on possible forum malfunctions or tracking errors.

Your road to the Council. Have a new UA you want looked over? An idea for a holiday themed event? Not happy with how certain things were sanctioned? Let a peacekeeper bring your thoughts to the Admin Lead for the Council to see.

Anonymous Complaint System. These individuals are also the anonymous complaint, request, and no confidence avenues for players and staff. At any time you can reach out to a @peacekeeper for an impartial reporting and venting. Peacekeepers can and will bring forward problems as impartially as possible. Be sure to let them know if you want to remain anonymous, they will do their best to resolve the issue without involving the person who reported it.

Your voice. Any matter of player disputes, cheating, or bullying brought before the Council will have a Peacekeeper assigned to each party to advocate and ensure that they get to have their say. Any rulings on these matters will come directly from the Council.

Forum fairies! In certain cases, Peacekeepers who are interested maybe tasked with forum upkeep, special forum theme creations for special events, and character tracking if they are interested.

Dungeon Master

A Dungeon Masters job is not one of knowing all the rules or giving all the players what they want.

Run games. It is the job of a DM to organize and run games that further the overall story of the ongoing world of the 'In-character' community.

Game referees. Also known as cat-herders, stern overlords, but most of all they are storytellers.

Plot Management. DM’s are asked to provide a short synopsis of their plot and the outcome of said plot to further the Server histories after each game in the forums.

Rules & Mechanics. DM’s should have a decent knowledge of DND game rules, mechanics, and general know-how. They are also responsible for answering questions in the Mechanics and role play coordination chats in the discord.

DMs come in different tiers and types just as Adventures do. Most new DM’s will start at T1 and will have to prove themselves to be promoted to the next tier. DMs with lots of experience may be promoted faster than new DMs.

Tier 1 - Local - Levels 1-6: These adventures take place in or around major metropolitan areas and have little impact on the Setting World. They are encouraged to focus on Character Backstory and Growth, allowing the Players to become comfortable with new characters.

Tier 2 - Regional - Levels 5-11: Adventures in this Tier have impacts on the Cities they are in and the surrounding communities. There is a high chance of garnering the attention of local Nobility, for good or ill, and characters will begin interacting with Organizations and NPCs that have larger reaching influence.

Tier 3 - National - Levels 10-16: Quests with this Tier deal with Nobility and Organizational Politics and Intrigue that has a great effect on the shape of the Sword Coast and its Neighbors, even requiring the adventurers to travel outside of the Sword Coast itself.

Tier 4 - Global - Levels 15+: While these are the rarest of Adventures, they have the largest impact on the Setting World, dealing with NPCs such as Elminster and Manshoon, Royalty, and even perhaps Deities.

Social Dungeon Master (Court Masters): These are those who organize Play-By-Post activities for the community in order to facilitate Roleplay. This can be a grand ball or a small get-together for a wine tasting or a Festival celebrating a Deity. They may also be asked to help run role-playing for a plot or play NPCs. These DMs may NOT run combat or major plots.

Probationary Dungeon Master: ANY Dungeon Master that is new to Dungeons and Dragons, our Community, Online Role-playing, OR Foundry. Probationary DMs are restricted to Tier 1 games for a minimum of three (3) games. Plot and mechanics involved MUST be gone over fully with an established DM. DM Lead will decide when the probationary DM has proven themselves capable of being promoted to a full DM. During the Probationary time, if a situation is deemed to have gone too far out of control, the possibility of Retroactive Continuity may be considered.

Benefits:

-1 Level Advancement (+1 Level) on a single character of their choice up to Level 16, at time of appointment, and at each promotion of tier. In total 4 level advancements (can be used on a separate character each time granted) for reaching Tier 4 Dungeon Master.

-DM’s are awarded the same reward as is awarded to characters who are in their games at the same time as the characters. While the AP and TP of the DMs awards will be numerically the same as the players, this award is considered staff and follows staff reward rules of no limit and can be distributed as they see fit.

-DMs will receive a bonus allotment of 5TP per calendar month if they run four or more games in a month.

-Is not limited to the max of 10tp per month.

-Mentoring: If a player wants to be a DM but has never done so before, and an active DM can assist with the training of that player, they will earn extra TP above and beyond the rewards listed above at the discretion of the DM Lead.

-Social DM’s will have a standard award for their games. (1AP and 2TP) Social DMs awards are the same as regular DM awards. No other awards to players other than AP and TP can be granted without approval by the DM Lead. Social DMs do not receive a Level Advancement until after their first 3 events run as a Court Master.

-Probationary DMs will use the standard AP/TP rewards system, and may NOT grant ANY other boons, items, or gold to players. Probationary DMs will receive the same as regular DMs with the exception of the level to a character, that will be given when DM has been promoted to T1 DM.
